Abstract

In the consolation of philosophy, we are faced with three "what"s: what are we? what do we have of ourselves? what should we be looking for? These three questions and their answers are "epistemology" in the consolation of philosophy; and the purpose of posing these questions and answering them is "axiology" in this treatise. The humanistic field of this treatise and why and how philosophy is consoling in a situation where Boethius was awaiting execution and had nothing to lose and no opportunity to gain, caused three issues to be analyzed in an analytical-descriptive method: 1. Does Boethius consider "epistem" possible in this treatise? 2. What kind and how is this epistem? 3. What is the necessity and purpose of dealing with this epistemology in the consolation of philosophy? In the consolation of philosophy Boethius presents an epistemology with regard to the origin and destination, in which "self-awareness" is considered the reason for distinguishing human from other things. According to him, everything is valuable because it has a purpose, and the purpose of human action is God, so that man becomes like God. Since value theory in Boethius' opinion is related to concepts such as: good and happiness, the value in this treatise is "moral". In this treatise, philosophy teaches man how he can relate to God at the highest level of knowledge through his actions and reach this great understanding.

در رسالهٔ تسلّای فلسفه با سه «چه» مواجه هستیم: 1. چه هستیم؟ 2. از خود چه داریم؟ 3. در پی چه باید باشیم؟ این سه سؤال و پاسخ آنها «شناخت‌شناسی» در تسلای فلسفه است؛ و غایت طرح این سه سؤال و پاسخ به آنها «ارزش شناسی» در این رساله هستند. ساحت انسان گرایانۀ این رساله و چرایی و چگونگی تسلّابخشی فلسفه در شرایطی که بوئثیوس در انتظار اعدام، نه چیزی برای از دست دادن و نه فرصتی برای به دست آوردن داشت، موجب شد تا سه مسئله به روش تحلیلی _توصیفی مورد واکاوی قرار گیرند: 1. آیا بوئثیوس در این رساله «شناخت» را ممکن می‌داند؟ 2. این شناخت از چه نوعی و چگونه است؟ 3. ضرورت و غایت پرداختن به این شناخت‌شناسی چیست؟ بوئثیوس در تسلّای فلسفه نوعی شناخت‌شناسی با توجه به مبدأ و مقصد ارائه می‌دهد که در آن «خودآگاهی» حدّ تمیّز انسان با دیگر چیزها قلمداد می‌شود. از نظر او هر چیزی از این جهت ارزشمند است که غایتمند باشد و غایت فعل انسان خداوند است تا انسان خداگونه شود. از آن جایی که ارزش‌شناسی در رأی بوئثیوس با مفاهیمی همچون خیر و سعادت در ارتباط است، ارزش در این رساله از نوع «اخلاقی» است. در این رساله، فلسفه به انسان می‌آموزد که چگونه با فعل خود می‌تواند با خداوند در عالی‌ترین مرتبۀ شناخت نسبت پیدا کند و به این درک عالی برسد.
